SMITH SCHOLARSHIP IN MUSIC FOR MISS MARY PHELPS (13) A letter from the Registrar concerning the granting of a Smith scholarship in Music for the year 1918-19 to Miss Mary Phelps. September 17, 1918 Dr. Edmund J. James, President

DEAR M R . PRESIDENT:

I beg leave to report that, in accordance with your instructions, I have assigned a Smith scholarship in Music for the year 1918-19 to Miss Mary Phelps of 502 West Springfield Avenue, Champaign. This scholarship will relieve her of the payment of the incidental and music fees for the coming year (three quarters). It is my understanding that, since Miss Phelps was a student in the University last year and has not passed the required examinations (see paragraphs 6 and 4 of the enclosed circular), this case will need to be reported to the Board of Trustees for approval as a special case. Sincerely yours,

C. M. MCCONN

The action of the Registrar in granting this scholarship was approved.

REGISTRATION OF MILITARY INSTRUCTORS—FEES (14) A letter from the President of the University to the Registrar concerning the admission of commissioned and non-commissioned officers of the United States Army, who may be assigned to the University as instructors, to registration for work.
