VmXriGHAk E0U6ATI0N UNfclft THE SlWITJ^HUSHES ACT (3) A statement that the Illinois Board of Vocational Education recently appointed by the Governor, of which the Stsfte Superinitehdeht of Public instruction, Honorable Francis G. Blair^ is executive officer, is now ready to cooperate with the University and other institutions in carrying out in this state the provisions of the Smith-Hughes Act, providing for the organization of vocational education throughout the country. The University is in position to' cooperate in the training of teachers in Agriculture, Domestic Science, and the trades and industries. Following the suggestion of the State Superintendent of- Public instruction, the University is making an application to the State Board for Vocational Education for approval of its plans fdr teachers' training courses1 in Vocational Agriculture. We can organize this work for the present semester, and I request authority to make application for the approval of this work by the State Board for Vocational Education. I have authorized, subject to the approval of the Board, the assignrrient of Professor A. W. Nolan of the College of Agriculture to service with the State Board for Vocational Education for the period ffoni January 1, 1^18, to June 30, 1918, with the understanding that While Professor Nolan follows the directions of the State Board for Vocational Education, he has not lost his dMcial connection with the University, which p>a#s his salary and traveling expenses. It is understood that one-half his salary will be reimbursed to the University from the funds of the Illinois State Board for Vocational Education. APPLICATION

To the Illinois Board for Vocational Education, Springfield, Illinois The University of Illinois hereby makes application for approval of plans for the maintenance of teacher-training courses in agriculture tinder the provisions of the plan of the Illinois Board for Vocational Education, as approved by the Federal Board. In case this application is approved by the Illinois fioard for Vocational Education, the said University of Illinois agrees— i. To follow strictly the provisions of the plan of the Illinois firiard for Vocational Education, as approved by the Federal Board for Vocational ^Education. 2. To submit to the Illinois feoard for Vocational Education, when requested, such additional information as may be necessary for the Illinois
