Institution at Washington, and the various departments of the Federal Government which may desire to avail themselves of its services. On motion of Mr. Ward, the President of the University was authorized to extend such leave of absence on terms which he may approve.

ADDITIONAL LAND FOR McKINLEY HOSPITAL

(9) A recommendation that lots 73 and 74 on Armory Avenue between Third Street and Arbor Street in Champaign be purchased if they can be acquired for a reasonable price. These lots are immediately adjacent to two lots on Armory Avenue, 71 and J2, already purchased as a site for the McKinley Hospital, and are necessary to complete the site. On motion of Mr. Carr, the President of the University was authorized to purchase these lots.

PURCHASE OF FIRE-FIGHTING EQUIPMENT

(10) A recommendation from Professor James M. White, Supervising Architect, that the University contract with the White company for a motordriven combination chemical and hose car at a cost of $3,903.50. On motion of Mrs. Evans, this recommendation was approved. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Taggart, Mr. Trimble, Mr. Ward, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trevett.

DETAIL OF PROFESSOR W. A. OLDFATHER ON GOVERNMENT SERVICE

(11) A statement that he had received a telegram from Dr. G. S. Ford, a member of the Committee on Public Information at Washington, requesting that Professor W. A. Oldfather be given leave of absence to act as assistant to Dr. Ford in his work on the Committee. This work is of a confidential nature and calls for accurate and extensive knowledge. On motion of Mr. Trimble, the President of the University was authorized to grant this leave of absence on terms which seem satisfactory to him.

APPROPRIATION FOR PRINTING MACHINERY

(12) A recommendation from the Comptroller, approved by the Chairman of the Committee on University Press, that $10,000 be appropriated for the purchase of additional printing equipment. Of the appropriation made on December 14, 1916, it was possible to use only $1000 before the end of the fiscal year. It is necessary now to add the equipment then contemplated and some additional items. The total value of the equipment in our Print Shop at the present time is approximately $4500. We are doing an average of $iqoo worth of printing a month with an average expenditure of $300 for labor. It is difficult to state the actual financial saving effected, but
