MATTERS SUBMITTED BY PRESIDENT JAMES

The Board considered the following matters submitted by the President of the University:

USE OF BUILDINGS ON SUNDAY

(1) Requests from members of the faculty for the use) of University buildings on Sunday for other than the class of purposes authorized by the Board in their action of December 19, 1912 (Report 1914, page 147). On motion of Mr. Trimble, the action of December 19, 1912, was reaffirmed.

ORIENTAL MUSEUM—CURATOR APPOINTED

(2) A recommendation that an Oriental Museum be established on the same general basis as the Natural History Museum, the Museum of Classical Art and Archeology, and the Museum of European Culture; that a room in Lincoln Hall be assigned for this Museum; that Professor A. T. Olmstead be appointed Curator to serve until further notice; and that $1000 be appropriated for the purchase of cases and for other necessary expenses. On motion of Mrs. Evans, this Museum was created and the appropriation made, by the following vote: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Taggart, Mr. Trimble, Mr. Ward, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trevett. On motion of Mr. Taggart, Professor Olmstead was appointed curator until further notice.

COOPERATIVE MINING INVESTIGATIONS

(3) A copy of the agreement for cooperative mining investigations for the year ending June 30, 1918. AN AGREEMENT between the United States Bureau of Mines, the State Geological Survey Division of the State of Illinois, and the Engineering Experiment Station of the University of Illinois 1. The United States Bureau of Mines, hereinafter referred to as the Bureau, the State Geological Survey Division of the State of Illinois, hereinafter referred to as the Survey, and the Engineering Experiment Station of the University of Illinois, hereinafter referred to as the University, desiring to make cooperative investigations and disseminate information with a view to improving conditions in the mining, quarrying, metallurgical, and other mineral industries, safeguarding life among employees, preventing unnecessary waste of resources, and otherwise contributing to the advancement of these industries, hereby agree as follows: 2. The Bureau will maintain in the buildings furnished by the University, on its campus at Urbana, Illinois, a mining experiment station devoted to the above purposes and to such other investigations as may be assigned to it from time to time by the Director of the Bureau, and will,
