BOARD OF TRUSTEES

[July 21,

On motion of Mrs. Evans, the President of the University was authorized to permit the erection of such a memorial at a suitable place in the Library Building.

PHARMACY ADVISORY BOARD

(17) The following statement: At the meeting of the Illinois Pharmaceutical Association held in Springfield on June 6, 7, and 8, the following pharmacists were recommended, from whom one is to be selected as a member of the Advisory Board of the School of Pharmacy, to fill the vacancy caused by the expiration of the term of Herman Fry of Chicago. The numbers attached indicate the vote received by each candidate: Albert Zimmermann, Peofist, 219 William E. Claypool, Springfield, 170 Andrew Scherer, Chicago, 169 On motion of Mr. Hdit, Mr. Albert Zimrriefmarin was appointed a member of the Advisory Board of the School of Pharmacy for a term of five years*

RAILWAY ADVISORY BOARD

(8) A recommendation from Mr. C. H* Markham, chairman of the Advisory Board of the College of Engineering for the Railway Industries of Illinois, that Mr. R, H. Aishton, president of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, be' appointed a member of this Board to succeed Mr. William A. Gardner, deceased. On motion of Mrs. Evans, this appointment was made.

SUPPORT OF SCHOOL DISTRICT 70

(i£) A request from certain citizens of School District No. 70 that the University contribute toward the support of the school of this district on the ground that more than one-third of the land lying in the district belongs to the University and is not subject to taxation. The result is that an undue burden rests on the taxpayers of the district in their attempt to support a school. This matter was discussed at some length. No action was taken, tho it was suggested informally that possibly the best method of handling the situation was to divide up the district among other districts.

SALTPETER INVESTIGATIONS

(20) A report from Professor H. S. Grindkiy that the researches in relation to the saltpeter investigations are still being prosecuted. The results' of this year's work confirm the previous conclusion, namely, that the animal body may excrete in the urine rndre nitrate than is ingested in the food. He is of the opinion that these studies prove that the body tissues are able to produce nitrates from unoxidized nitrogenous radicals and further that
