EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING, SEPTEMBER 13, 1917 A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held in the office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, in Springfield, at 10 a. m. on Thursday, September 13, 1917, during the recess in the meeting of the Board on the same day. Mr. W. L. Abbott, Chairman, and Mr. O. W. Hoit, member of the Committee, were present; also Superintendent Blair, Mrs. Laura B. Evans, and Mr. C. A. Trimble, members of the Board, and President James. Mr. O. W. Hoit acted as Clerk.

AMERICAN UNIVERSITY UNION IN EUROPE

President James presented an invitation from Anson Phelps Stokes, secretary of Yale University and secretary of the board of trustees of the American University Union in Europe, for the University of Illinois to become a member of the Union, at a cost of $250 a year. The object of this union is to help meet the social and other needs of American university and college men who are in Europe for military or other service in the cause of the Allies (See page 419). On motion of Mr. Hoit, the President of the University was authorized to take out this membership for the University. The Executive Committee adjourned.

SECOND SESSION, SEPTEMBER 13, 1917 When the Board convened at 10:30 a. m. on Thursday, September 13, 1917, pursuant to the adjournment taken at 10 a. m. on the same day, the following members were present: President Abbott, Superintendent Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Trimble, Mr. Ward. President James was present. Mr. O. W. Hoit acted as Secretary pro tempore.

The Board considered the following matters submitted by the President of the University.

SITE FOR MCKINLEY HOSPITAL

(1) The location of the University Infirmary for the erection of which Honorable William B. McKinley has presented securities to the par value of $120,000, estimated to have a cash value at the present time of $90,000,
