to the width of the block occupied by the Cook County Hospital, and that the various state hospitals should be located on this site with an opening toward the new Twelfth Street boulevard provided for in the new city plan of Chicago. O n motion of Mr. W a r d , the Executive Committee was authorized to undertake negotiations for the purchase of the W e s t Side Baseball Park, and to submit the results of the same to the Board. T h e vote was unanimous.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR BENTLEY

(4) A request for authority to grant leave of absence to Professor Madison Bentley to enable him to accept a commission as captain in the aviation corps. O n motion of M r . Hoit, the President of the University was authorized to grant Professor Bentley leave of absence, without salary, beginning September 1, 1917, and continuing until further notice.

HOSPITAL FOR WOUNDED SOLDIERS

(5) A letter from Mr. Douglas C. McMurtrie, president of the Federated Association for Cripples, New York, offering his services to assist in the establishment of a reconstruction hospital for war cripples in connection with the University. N o action was taken on this matter.

LABORATORY FEES IN BOTANY

(6) A recommendation from the Council of Administration that the laboratory fees in Botany 7a and 7b be changed from $5.00 to $3.00 a semester. This recommendation was approved.

PURCHASE AND SALE OF REAL ESTATE

(7) A report from the Comptroller that the purchase of the Kerr Forestry property* has been finally completed, the necessary papers exchanged, and the property paid for. 2. A further report that the purchase of property* at No. 806 South Sixth Street, Champaign, immediately west of Dean Davenport's house, as a site for the University Press, has been completed. The University has received a quit-claim deed signed by Bishop Osborne and a warranty deed signed by Bishop Sherwood, and the money has been paid. 3. A further report that the sale of the Smith farm near Rantoul to Jennie L. Molloy and Thomas F. Molloy of Rantoul, being 214 acres more or less, for a consideration of $37,450, has been completed, the deed from the University accepted by the purchasers, and the money received by the University (See pages 412 and 504)This report was received for record.
