BOARD OF TRUSTEES

[June 7,

ERECTION OF FLAGSTAFF (3) A recommendation from Major R. W . Mearns, Military Commandant, that a flagstaff be erected near the southeast corner of the Armory (instead of at the north side) at a cost of not more than $1000.

On motion of Mr. Carr, the President of the University was authorized to erect such a flagstaff. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Taggart, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trevett, Mr. Ward. TOOL HOUSE AND FARM HOUSE

(4) A recommendation from Professor C. G. Hopkins, endorsed by Dean Eugene Davenport, for the erection on the south farm east of the present agronomy barn of a tool house in which to provide storage for farm tools and machinery; also a farm house to provide a residence for the farm foreman. It is estimated that the expense of the farm house will be about $5,ooo, and that the machinery and tool house will cost about $2,500. In addition to this, there will be the expense of extending the University water system and the electric wiring.

This matter was referred to the Committee on Agriculture for consideration and report.

WORK OF T H E ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

At this point, Mr, H. J. Burt, President of the Alumni Association of the University, was introduced. Mr. Burt spoke concerning the organization and work of the Association. The Board then resumed its consideration of matters submitted by the President of the University.

UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS EXTENDED (5) A request of Mr. Clyde M. Smith, a sophomore in the College of Engineering, that the term of his county scholarship be extended for such a time as he may be in the service of the United States, he having withdrawn from the University to enlist in the Navy.

On motion of Mrs. Busey, the President of the University was authorized to extend until the end of the war undergraduate scholarships held by students who engage in approved service for the national defense.

MR. A, T. BACON APPOINTED TO ACCOUNTANCY BOARD (6) A recommendation from the Committee on Accountancy that Mr. Albert T. Bacon of Chicago be appointed a member of the Board of E x a m iners in Accountancy to fill the unexpired term ending July 1, 1919, of Mr. C. M. DeLany, resigned.

On motion of Miss Watson, this recommendation was approved.
