DEAN BABCOGK APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF SUMMER SESSION (18) A request for approval of the appointment of Doctor Kendric C. Babcock, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, to be also Director of the Summer Session for the year 1917.

On motion of Mr. Hoit, this appointment was approved.

APPROPRIATION FOR SUMMER SESSION (19) A recommendation that an appropriation of thirty thousand dollars be made for the expenses of the Summer Session in 1917.

On motion of Mr. Carr, this appropriation was made. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Hoit, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Dunne, Mr. Small, Mr. Trevett, Mr. Ward.

ASSISTANT DEAN OF MEDICINE (20) A recommendation that the President of the University be authorized to appoint an assistant dean in the College of Medicine for the medical course at Urbana.

On motion of Mr. Carr, this authority was given.

ASSISTANT DEAN OF DENTISTRY (21) A recommendation that the President of the University be authorized to appoint an assistant dean for the dental course offered at Urbana.

On motion of Mrs. Evans, this authority was given.

SITE (22) A statement building be pushed along ance, as well as welfare, action in this matter. FOR CLINICAL BUILDING of the necessity that the project of the clinical to success as rapidly as possible. The very existof the College of Medicine depends on suitable

ADDITIONAL MILITARY UNITS (23) A statement that the battery of field artillery which is now called Battery F of the Illinois National Guard would probably be disbanded, and a request for authority to apply to the W a r Department for units in cavalry and field artillery. There is a great desire on the part of some men on our military staff to organize a cavalry unit. My understanding is that the Federal government furnishes horses, saddles, bridles, other equipment, forage for the horses, and a certain number of men to take care of them. T h e University would have to furnish a stable and a paddock or pasture. If the battery of field artillery is disbanded we may supply its place by organizing a unit of field artillery under the new law relating to national defense of June last.
