certified check covering the estimated cost to be filed with the University prior to the beginning of the work. Agreement as to the details of this -arrangement is confirmed by correspondence which has passed between Professor Edward C. Schmidt and Mr. Monro B. Lanier, copies of which I have before me. You will note that this is not a continuing investigation, but one covering a definite -series of tests. -.In other respects it is similar to several cooperative undertakings already reported to you and approved both by you and by the Board of Trustees. In view of this fact and in view also of the limited amount of work involved, I am authorizing Professor Schmidt to proceed in accordance therewith. I trust that this will meet your approval. On motion of Mr. Hoit, the action of the Director of the Engineering Experiment Station was approved. MUSEUM OF EUROPEAN CULTURE

(11) A report from Professor N. C. Brooks, Curator-of the Museum of European Culture, showing that the interest of students and the outside public in the Museum is growing steadily. About eight thousand persons visited the museum during the year 1915-16, but the attendance for the month of November showed a considerable proportionate increase, being one .thousand six hundred eight)'-two. T h e Museum is becoming to an increasing extent a means of instruction in .the classes in.history and art.

This report was received for record.

CARETAKER FOR WOMEN'S GYMNASIUM (12) A communication from, Miss Freer, Director of the Women's Gymnasium, emphasizing the inadequacy of our present facilities and urging that the University provide as soon as possible a new and larger gymnasium for the women. Miss Freer requests that a competent woman be secured as caretaker in the locker room.

On motion of Miss Watson, the President of the University was authorized to appoint such a care-taker.
