LIGHT AND HEAT FOR UNIVERSITY CLUB

(2) A request from the University Club of Urbana and Champaign that the Club house on Illinois street be connected with the heating and lighting system of the University, the cost of such connection to be borne by the Club, and that the Club be supplied with heat and light at cost.

MY DEAR DR. STEELE :

Referring to our conversation of the other day, I beg to inform you that I am appointing you to be Senior Dean of the College of Medicine of the University of Illinois, without salary, beginning September 1, 1916, and continuing until further notice, but not longer than August 31, 1917,—all this subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. As you are aware, I have been instructed by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois to recommend at the earliest possible date a permanent dean for the College of Medicine, but I am not ready to make such a recommendation at the present time. I desire to thank you most sincerely for your courtesy and willingness to help in this matter of tiding over a difficult situation. Faithfully yours,

DEAR PRESIDENT JAMES :

On his return from his vacation I asked Mr. Rugg to again go over the books presented by you last year and to be called the Carl Martin James collection, and he has sent me a report to the effect that there are in the collection 1030 bound volumes, and 1145 unbound pamphlets, etc. In the Amanda K. Casad .collection there are 1732 bound volumes; and the pamphlets in this collection you, .told us need not be strictly counted; we
