R E C O M M E N D A T I O N S OF T H E U N I V E R S I T Y SENATE.

(4) A recommendation from the University Senate that certain changes be made in requirements for admission, as given on pages 74 to 75 of the Annual Register, that the professional degree of Mining Engineering (M.E.) be changed to Engineer of Mines (E.M.), and that the proposed new requirements for graduation from the College of Commerce and Business Administration be approved.

On motion of Mr. Carr, this recommendation was approved.

OLIVER BAINBRIDGE EXPEDITION.

(5) A letter from Mr. Oliver Bainbridge, concerning the Bainbridge Expedition to the Southern Seas.

On motion of Mrs. Evans, the President of the University was authorized to permit Oliver Bainbridge to collect specimens in the South Sea Islands and present the same to the University of Illinois, with the understanding that this does not involve .expenditure on the part of the University.

(6) A report from the Supervising Architect, Prof. James M. White, enclosing a schedule of the bids received for the construction of the Women's Residence Hall, with certain recommendations: President E. J. James, 355 Administration Building. DEAR SIR: I enclose a schedule of the bids received for the construction of the Women's Residence Hall and recommend that contracts be awarded to the low bidders as follows: A. W. Stoolman, Champaign, general contract, on the basis of completion July 1, 1917 $105,650 00 Callon Bros., Indianapolis, heating and plumbing 21,500 00 R. Haas Electric Mfg. Co., Springfield, electric wiring. 2,599 00 Total of general contracts $129,749 00 The other items necessary for the completion of the building are as follows: Preparation of plans and superintendence 6,000 00 Elevator, water softener, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment 9,160 00 Furniture and fixtures 14,191 00 Grounds 1 900 00 Total including general contracts $160,000 00 Possible additions and extras on the general contracts (about 3%) . . 4,000 00 Total • $164,000 00 I recommend that the entire sum be appropriated for the building and that $100,000 of it be included in the budget for 1916-17.
