UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS.

"Resolved, That Prof. George E. Frazer, Comptroller of the Board of Trustees, #s*authorized to secure a bond from the American Surety Company of New York in the amount of fifty thousand dollars, covering the ordnance and ordnance stores of the United States deposited with the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, and that the Comptroller is authorized to execute such bond in the form required by the Chief of Ordnance of the War Department of the United States Government." On motion of Superintendent Blair, the action of the members of the Executive Committee was approved and made an act of the board. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit (recorded later), Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Moore; noes, none; absent, Mr. Dunne, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Meeker, Mr. Trevett, Miss Watson. At this point, Mr. Hoit joined the meeting, and, having heard the reading of the motions concerning the importation of chemicals, the appropriation for the purchase of lots for the Woman's Dormitory, and the execution of a bond for military supplies, recorded his vote in the affirmative in each instance.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES.

The Secretary presented the minutes of the meeting of September 8, 1914, and of the adjourned session of September 11, 1914. The minutes were approved as printed on pages 114-135 above.

C. P. A. CERTIFICATES.

The Secretary presented also a report from Mr. C. M. McConn, Secretary of the University Committee on Accountancy, that the following persons had qualified for the degree of Certified Public Accountant, and that certificates would be issued: Arthur T. Grossman and Stephen G. Crilly. This report was received for record.

ADMISSION TO LIBRARY SCHOOL.

The Secretary presented also a report from Mr. C. M. McConn, Clerk of the University Senate:

The University Senate, at its meeting of October 5, 1914, voted to recommend to the Board of Trustees the following additional requirement for admission to the Library School, to take effect in September, 1915 : A reading knowledge of at least two modern foreign languages, one of which shall be either French or German.

At the request of Dr. Montgomery, action on this matter was deferred.

APPOINTMENTS MADE BY T H E PRESIDENT OF T H E UNIVERSITY.

The Secretary presented also for record the following list of appointments made by President James:

Atwell, Clarence A., Assistant in General Engineering Drawing, for 9 months beginning October 1, 1914, at a salary of ninety dollars ($90) a month. (September 29, 1914.)* Bach, Erwin G., Assistant in the Department of Pathology and Bacteriology, on one-half time, beginning October 1, 1914, at a salary of five hundred dollars ($500) for the year. (September 10, 1914.) Baumgardner, H. C, to assist in the College and Station work of the Department of Animal Husbandry, on three-fourths time, beginning October 1, 1914, and continuing until further notice, at a remuneration of seventy dollars ($70) a month. (October 17, 1914.) Baumgartner, Rachel A., Graduate Assistant in Zoology, for the first semester of the present academic year, with a schedule of 12 hours a week, at a stipendium of one hundred fifty dollars ($150) and exemption from fees other than the matriculation fee. (October 9, 1914.) Beadles, Jessie R., Stenographer in the Department of Animal Husbandry, at a salary of sixty-five dollars ($65) a month, beginning when she reports for duty and continuing until further notice,, subject to the rules of the Civil Service Commission. (October 31, 1914.) Becker, Georgia, Stenographer in the Department of Dairy Husbandry, at a salary of sixty-five dollars ($65) a month, beginning November 1, 1914, and continuing until further notice. (November 3, 1914.) Broday, Esther, Typist in the Department of Anatomy, at a salary of fifty dollars ($50) a month, for 8 months, beginning October 1, 1914,p subject to the rules of the Civil Service Commission. (October 17, 1914.) Brunskill, E. R., Student Assistant in Chemistry, for 9 months beginning October 1, 1914, at a salary of ten dollars ($10) a month. (September 23, 1914.) * The date in parenthesis is the date on which the appointment was made by the President of the University.
