( 1 ) A s t a t e m e n t c o n c e r n i n g t h e a c c e p t a n c e of a n a p p o i n t m e n t a s T r u s t e e of Illinois W o m a n ' s College. I h a v e been a s k e d b y t h e T r u s t e e s of t h e Illinois W o m a n ' s College a t J a c k s o n ville, 111., to s e r v e a s a m e m b e r of t h e i r b o a r d . I h a v e n o t felt a t l i b e r t y to a c c e p t s u c h a p p o i n t m e n t s w i t h o u t consent of t h e B o a r d of T r u s t e e s of t h e U n i v e r s i t y of Illinois. No action was taken in answer to this statement, but the sentiment of the board seemed to he entirely unanimous that it ,would he perfectly proper for the President to accept such appointment.
