PROCEEDINGS OP THE BOARD OP TRUSTEES.

113

The first five names represent the personnel of the last committee, and my suggestion would be that those members be re-elected according to the plan adopted by the Board of Trustees, whereby one vacancy occurs each year. It would be a very great advantage if this committee could be appointed at once, because there are many questions in the soil work that ought to be discussed with this committee. Respectfully submitted, E. DAVENPORT, Dean and Director.

On motion of Dr. Montgomery, it was voted to approve Dean Davenport's recommendation in this matter, and to appoint Mr. Ralph Allen of Delavan, Mr. J. P. Mason of Elgin, Mr. C. V. Gregory of Chicago, Mr. F. I. Mann of Gilman, and Mr. A. N. Abbott of Morrison, as members of the Advisory Committee on Soils of the University of Illinois, for periods of five years, four years, three years, two years, and one year, respectively, in accordance with the plan of organization for this committee and similar committees adopted by the Board of Trustees on June 9, 1914.

Mr. Trevett moved that Dr. Jean B. Beck be reappointed Assistant Professor of Romance Languages, for one year beginning September 1, 1914, at a salary of twenty-five hundred dollars ($2,500) for the year. The Acting President of the board declared this motion out of order, as being contrary to section 5 of Article VI of the by-laws of the Board of Trustees. On motion of Mr. Hoit, the board adjourned.

W. L. ABBOTT, C. M. MCCONN, Secretary pro tern. President.
