Meeting of October 4, 1913.

A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held in the Trustees' Room, at the University, in Urbana, on Saturday, October 4, 1913, beginning at 9 A.M., pursuant to the following notice which was sent out by the secretary on September 29, 1913: Upon the call of the president, Mr. W. L. Abbott, a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois will be held in the Trustee's Room, at the University, in Urbana, on Saturday, October 4, 1913, beginning at 9 :00 A.M., to consider such matters as the committees of the board and the President of the University may submit and such other matters as may be duly presented. When the board convened, the following members were present: Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Moore, Mr. Trevett, Miss Watson. President James and Prof. James M. White, Supervising Architect, were present. FURTHER PURCHASE OF LAND: REPORTS OF T H E FINANCE COMMITTEE.

The following reports with reference to the further purchase of land were received from the Finance Committee:

FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING OF S E P T E M B E R 13, 1913.

Messrs. Moore, Trevett, and Hoit present. The following recommendations were unanimously adopted: 1. That the Barnes property be secured for the purpose designated and that an offer of $14,000 be made the owners. 2. That lots 19, 21, 23, 24, 25, 27 and 28 on Nevada Street be purchased for present and future needs for residence halls, that the proposed building be located on lots 23, 24, 25, and that an offer of $40 a front foot be made for all these properties. 3. That twelve lots between Goodwin and Babcock upon which options are offered be purchased at approximately $29,000. 4. That Professor Morgan Brooks' residence property be purchased, if possible, at a cost of $30,000. 5. In view of the present opportunities for buying desirable land at a low price, we recommend that the board appropriate $100,000 in addition to the $400,000 already set aside for the purpose.
