FURTHER PURCHASE OF LAND.

(4) A recommendation that the board authorize the acquisition of further land suitable for sites for a zoological laboratory, a botanical laboratory, an insectary, a University storehouse, a School of Education Building-, and a women's residence hall; that reasonable prices be tendered to the owners of the sites that may be selected; and t h a t , if these prices be not accepted the Counsel of the University be instructed to initiate proceedings for the acquisition of the property by condemnation.

Governor Dunne suggested the following resolution on the subject of this recommendation: That the Finance Committee be authorized to negotiate for the purchase of sites for a zoological laboratory, a botanical laboratory, an insectary, a University storehouse, a school of education building, and a women's residence hall at reasonable prices, and in case options can not be secured at reasonable prices, to commence condemnation proceedings for the acquirement thereof. On motion of Mr. Trevett, the foregoing resolution suggested by .Governor Dunne was adopted, the vote being as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mr* Blair, Mr. Dunne, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Montgomery (recorded at the afternoon session), Mr. Trevett; noes, none; absent, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Meeker, Mr. Moore, Miss Watson.

APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR OF P H O T O G R A P H I C L A B O R A T O R I E S .

(5) A recommendation that the President of the University be given authority to appoint Mr. Arthur G. Eldredge to be Instructor in Photography and Director of the Photographic Laboratories, at a salary of three thousand dollars ($3,000) per annum, beginning September 1, 1913, or as soon thereafter as he may report for service in Urbana.

On motion of Mrs. Evans, this recommendation was approved, the vote being as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Blair, Mr. Dunne, Mrs. Evans, MrHoit, Mr. Montgomery (recorded at the afternoon session), Mr. Trevett; noes, none; absent, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Meeker, Mr. Moore, Miss Watson. ADJUSTMENT IN THE SALARY OF MR. W. A. CHASE.

(6) A recommendation that the salary of Mr. William A. Chase as Lecturer in Accountancy and Commercial Law, on part time, for the academic year 1913-14^ be fixed at twenty-four hundred dollars ($2,400), instead of two thousand dollars ($2,000) a s was approved by the Executive Committee on July 23, 1913, (page 628) ; t h e recommendation that this salary be fixed at two thousand dollars having: been based on incomplete information.

(8) A recommendation from Professor James M. White, Supervising Architect, that the sum of six thousand dollars ($6,000) be appropriated for the paving of Burrill Avenue from Green Street as far south as the Auditorium with tarvia, and that the east driveway be laid out according to a plan submitted and be paved as far south as the Auditorium with the same material, and that elms be planted on both sides of it.

This recommendation was referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds for consideration and report.
