RECOMMENDATIONS

President James presented also his recommendations with reference to appointments in the faculty of the College of Medicine, with the further recommendation that this matter be referred to the Committee on the College of Medicine and School of Pharmacy with power to act. On motion of Mrs. Busey, the president's recommendations with reference to appointments in the faculty of the College of Medicine were referred to the Committee on the College of Medicine and the School of Pharmacy with power to act.

BUILDINGS BUDGET.

President James presented also the following recommendation with reference to buildings:

That the Board of Trustees authorize the supervising architect to proceed with plans for the following buildings at the estimated cost indicated, and that of the total sum the amount of nine hundred, thousand dollars ($900,000) be appropriated from the funds available for the purchase of land and erection of buildings during the present biennium, the balance to be a charge upon the funds of the next biennium: 1. Addition to the Natural History Building $ 65,000 00 2. Addition to the Chemistry Building 250,000 00 3. Addition to the Commerce Building for administrative purposes.. 125,000 00 4. Ceramics Building 65,000 00 5. School of Education Building 120,000 00 6. Women's Residence Hall 100,000 00 7. Engineering> Buildings— (a) Completion of Transportation Building $33,000 00 (b) Railway Electrical Laboratory 25,000 00 (c) Wing for work in concrete, etc 16,000 00 (d) Extension of Mechanical Engineering Laboratory 26,000 00 100,000 00 8. VOTE ON T H E

PURCHASE OF LAND.

At this point Mrs. Busey's motion (page 607) was called up for consideration, namely, that the report of the Finance Committee be accepted, that the oflBlcers of the board be authorized to close the purchase of the tracts of land recommended by the committee for purchase, and that the committee be given further time to consider the other proposed tracts. Mrs. Evans moved to amend this motion so as to provide for the immediate purchase of the one hundred sixty acres on which the board has a written option and to authorize the Finance Committee to secure options on the other tracts. When, after further discussion, the vote was taken, the motion to amend was lost. The original motion, carrying the approval of the report of the Finance Committee, the setting aside of four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000) for the purchase of land, and the appropriation of two hundred fifty-six thousand dollars ($256,000) for the purchase of the tracts specified in the report, was passed. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Moore, Mr. Trevett, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Dunne, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Meeker.

APPROVAL OF T H E SALARY BUDGET.

On motion of Mrs. Henrotin, it was voted to approve the salary budget in full as presented by the President of the University. The vote was as —40 U
