PROCEEDINGS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS FOR THE YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 1913.

Meeting of July 5, 1912.

A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held at the La Salle Hotel, in the city of Chicago, at 12:30 P.M., on Friday, July 5, 1912, pursuant to the following notice which was sent out •by the secretary on June 29, 1912:

Upon the call of the president, Mr. W. L. Abbott, there will be a special meeting" of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois at the LaSalle Hotel, in Chicago, on Friday, July 5, 1912, at 12:30 P.M., to consider such -matters as the committees of the board and the President of the University may : submit and such other matters as may be duly presented.

When the board convened, the following members were present: Mr. -Abbott, Mr. Grout, Mr. Hatch, Mr. Hoit. President James was also present. There being no quorum, the board adjourned, to meet at the La Salle -Hotel, in the city of Chicago, on Saturday, July 13, 1912, at 12:30 P.M.

MEETING OP THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE, JULY 5, 1912. A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held at the La Salle Hotel, Chicago, immediately following the adjournment of the special meeting of the board on July 5, 1912. All the members of the Executive Committee were present, namely, Messrs. Abbott, Grout, and Hatch; also Mr. Hoit, a member of the board, cand President James.

REPORTS OF COMMITTEE ON BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS.

The secretary presented the following reports from the Committee on Buildings and Grounds:

. . URBANA, April 20, 1912.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois: Your Committee on Buildings and Grounds held a meeting at the University on this date. There were present: Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Busey, and Mr. Hatch, members of the committee, Messrs. Grout and Hoit, members of the board, and Professor White, Supervising Architect. CAMPUS LIGHTING. The committee considered the communication from the Welsbach Street Lighting Company of America, containing proposals for the furnishing and maintenance of lights for the University campus, which was referred to the committee on September 12, 1911, for consideration and report (Twenty-sixth Report, 1912, p. 477), and voted to recommend that no action be taken in the matter. IMPROVED LIGHTING IN THE LIBRARY, The committee considered again the Supervising Architect's recommendation that $400 be appropriated for improved lighting in the library. This recom-
