RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION OF SERVICES OF MESSRS. GROUT AND HATCH. Mr. Hoit presented the following resolutions of appreciation of the services of Messrs. A. P. Grout and Fred L. Hatch, former members of the Board of Trustees, whose terms expired on March 11, 1913; this resolution having been drafted by the special committee authorized at the meeting of March 5, 1913 (193): RESOLUTION. The University of Illinois has had a remarkable growth within the last decade. That growth has resulted from many causes. One of these causes is the presence upon the Board of Trustees of persons who have faith in the future of the University and an intelligent understanding of the steps necessary to translate that faith into an enlarged physical equipment, courses of study, and teaching faculty. It is the desire of the members of the Board of Trustees to express in this special manner their appreciation of the large services rendered to the University in this decade of growth by Messrs. A. P. Grout and Fred L». Hatch. Committee. This resolution was adopted by a unanimous vote of the members present. UNIVERSITY APPROPRIATION BILL.

President James presented for record a copy of Senate Bill No. 675, entitled, "For an Act making appropriations for the University of Illinois/' which was signed by Governor Dunne on June 24, 1913. This bill was received to be printed in the minutes: For an Act making appropriations for the University of Illinois. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly: That there be and is hereby appropriated to the University of Illinois for the biennium beginning July 1, 1913, the sum of four million five hundred thousand dollars ($4,500,000) payable out of money paid into the State treasury and set apart as a fund for the use and maintenance of the University of Illinois, in accordance with an Act entitled: "An Act to provide by State tax for a fund for the support and maintenance of the University of Illinois," approved June10, 1911, in force July 1, 1911, payable as follows: 1. For maintenance, equipment and general operating expenses, the sum of" one million six hundred thousand dollars ($1,600,000) per annum. 2. For the purchase of land and the erection and permanent equipment of buildings, the sum of six hundred fifty thousand dollars ($650,000) per annum.. SECTION 2. The appropriations made herein shall be paid only out of moneys; paid into the State treasury and set apart for the use and maintenance of the University of Illinois in accordance with the provisions of an Act entitled "An Act to provide by State tax for a fund for the support and maintenance of the University of Illinois," approved June 10, 1911, in force July 1, 1911. The Auditor of Public Accounts is hereby authorized and directed to draw his warrants from time to time upon the State Treasurer, for amounts expended or bills then due, from the sums herein appropriated, payable severally to the persons named, upon the presentation of itemized vouchers therefor, certified to by the President and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, with, the corporate seal of the University attached thereto. MINUTES CORRECTED AND APPROVED. The minutes of the meeting of June 10, 1913, being again taken under consideration, the following corrections were noted: (1) To. be inserted on page 259 immediately before the paragraph beginning, "At this point President James withdrew": Mrs. Busey presented the matter concerning the University appropriation bill which was being considered before the Legislature, which was discussed at some length. (2) To be inserted on page 259 immediately before the paragraph reading, "The board adjourned": On motion of Mr. Moore, it was voted that the foregoing resolution be telegraphed to the members of the Appropriations Committees of both houses of the Forty-eighth General Assembly. With these corrections,* the minutes of June 10, 1913, were approved.
