necessitate the replacing of these articles by the University each year; the number involved this year would be 25 sabers at $7.25 each, or $181.25, and 25 belts at $2.50 each, or $62.50, making a total of $243.75; Colonel Morse believes that this concession would tend to stimulate a desire for these positions. On motion of Mr. Blair, this recommendation was approved, and an appropriation of two hundred forty-three dollars and seventy-five cents ($243.75) was made for the purpose. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Trevett, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Dunne, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Meeker, Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Moore.

APPOINTMENT OF AN INSTRUCTOR IN VOICE.

President James presented a recommendation that Mr. Heber D. Nasmyth be appointed Instructor in Voice in the School of Music for the academic year beginning September 1, 1913, at a salary of seventeen hundred dollars ($1700) for the year. This recommendation was approved, the vote being as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit, Miss Watson; no, Mr. Trevett; absent, Mr. Dunne, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Meeker, Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Moore.

PERMISSION FOR T H E ERECTION OF A MEMORIAL GATEWAY.

President James presented a request from the Glass of 1913 for permission to erect a memorial gateway facing Wright Street at the beginning of the walk running along the south side of Lincoln Hall to the Auditorium. This request was approved. The board adjourned.
