P r s i d e n t J a m e s called a t t e n t i o n t o t h e fact t h a t in t h e p r e l i m i n a r y d i s t r i b u t i o n of t h e buildings funds of t h e A g r i c u l t u r a l D e p a r t m e n t only t w e n t y t h o u s a n d d o l l a r s ($20,000) h a d been set a s i d e for t h e s e t w o buildings, while t h e low bid, t h a t of E n g l i s h B r o t h e r s , calls for t h i r t y - t h r e e t h o u s a n d d o l l a r s ($33,000). T h e p r e s i d e n t s t a t e d , however, t h a t it m i g h t be possible, by r e s t r i c t i n g c e r t a i n a s s i g n m e n t s a l r e a d y m a d e for o t h e r p u r p o s e s w h i c h m i g h t p e r h a p s be postponed, t o provide, from t h e b u i l d i n g f u n d s of t u e A g r i c u l t u r a l D e p a r t m e n t , t h e a d d i t i o n a l s u m n e c e s s a r y for t h e completion of t h e s e t w o buildings. HAINES LEASE SIGNED; OPTION PRICE CONSIDERED

EXCESSIVE.

The secretary presented the following report with regard to the lease and option of purchase for the Haines property. This report was received for record.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois: A t a special m e e t i n g of t h e b o a r d held on D e c e m b e r 19, 1912, i t w a s v o t e d t o a u t h o r i z e t h e officers of t h e b o a r d t o sign a lease a n d option of p u r c h a s e . for 47.67 a c r e s l y i n g b e t w e e n F i r s t S t r e e t a n d t h e Illinois C e n t r a l R a i l r o a d , a n d k n o w n a s t h e H a i n e s p r o p e r t y , p r o v i d e d t h i s l e a s e should be a p p r o v e d b y t h e counsel of t h e b o a r d . I b e g l e a v e t o r e p o r t t h a t t h i s lea'se a n d option h a s been s u b m i t t e d t o D e a n H a r k e r , a n d h a s been p r o n o u n c e d b y h i m to be in p r o p e r form, a n d h a s b e e n signed b y t h e officers of t h e b o a r d .
