Meeting of December 10, 1912.

The quarterly meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held at the University in Urbana, on Tuesday, December 10, 1912, beginning at 10:00 A.M, The following members were present: Mrs. Bahrenburg, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Grout, Mr. Hatch, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Moore. President James was also present. Mrs. Ellen M. Henrotin and Mr. John R. Trevett, newly elected members of the board, whose term of office begins next March, were present by invitation and sat with the board during the day. In the absence of President Abbott, upon motion of Mrs. Bahrenburg, Mr. Grout was elected chairman of the meeting. The secretary of the board being absent on other University business, Mr. H. E. Cunningham, Assistant Registrar, acted as secretary pro tempore.

NEEDS OF DEPARTMENTS PRESENTED.

The regular order of business was suspended, and President James presented a number of members of the faculty, who spoke to the board of the needs of their respective departments for maintenance and extension- for two years to come. Dean Davenport spoke for the College of Agriculture and presented also Messrs. Mann, Tanner, Rowe, and Ammann, members of the College Advisory Boards, who represented respectively the sections of Soils, Horticulture, Farm Crops, and Floriculture. Dean Goss spoke for the College of Engineering and the Engineering Experiment Station. At this point President James presented Messrs. Burres, Williamson, and Meeker, members-elect of the Forty-eighth General Assembly, who made cordial expression of their good will toward the University. Professor Hollister, High School Visitor, presented the needs of the work of inspection of high schools. At 12:30 P.M. a recess was taken for luncheon.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

FURTHER PRESENTATION OF NEEDS OF DEPARTMENTS.

When the board convened again after luncheon, the same members were present as at the morning session, and the hearing of the needs of the departments was resumed. Dean Townsend spoke for the College of Science, and presented also Professors Noyes, Hottes, Ward, and Frank Smith, who spoke respectively of the needs of the Departments of Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology, and the Museum of Natural History. Professor Stoek spoke for the work in Mining Engineering and the Mine Rescue Station; Dean Daniels for the College of Literature and Arts; Professor Bagley for the School of Education; Librarian Windsor and Professors Ford, Carman, and Oldfather for the Library; and Professors Pease and Brooks for the Museums of Classical Art and Archaeology and European Culture, respectively. 136
