comptroller as they may be defined from time to time by the Board of Trustees. If this general idea commands the approval of the board, I would ask for authority to nominate a professor of accounting with the purpose of combining the two offices of professor of accounting and comptroller of the University in case a suitable candidate can be found.

On motion of Mr. Grout, it was voted to approve the general plan outlined above, and to authorize the president of the University to look for a suitable candidate for a professorship in accounting, to whom may be assigned the duties of the comptroller as they may be defined from time to time by the Board of Trustees.

STOCK OF T H E COLLEGE OF P. A N D S.: DONATIONS A N D OPTIONS.

(7) A statement from Dr. D. A. K. Steele, President of the corporation of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago, giving a report of progress from the committee which has undertaken to secure donations of the capital stock of the said corporation for presentation to. the University of Illinois and options on those portions of the stock of which donations cannot be secured, as follows: Shares. Stock given outright and now in the possession of Dr. Steele as trustee, ready to be handed over to the University of Illinois 1,359 3/5 Further donations promised. 51 Total donations, in hand and promised 1,410 3/5 Stock on which signed options have been delivered to Dr. Steele 601 Options promised but not yet delivered 53 2/5 Total options, in hand and promised Stock on which options have been requested but not yet received Total issue of stock 654 2/5 105 2,170

A vote of thanks was rendered to Mr. Anthony for the enjoyable luncheon at which the members of the board had just been entertained.

EXTENSION OF T I M E ON SCHOOL OF COMMERCE BUILDING.

The secretary presented a request from Mr. A. W. Stoolman, contractor ^ for the School of Commerce Building, that the time for the final completion of this building should be extended from September 1, 1912, to November 27, 1912, the latter being the date originally provided for in the contract; the reason given for this request being that as a result of the unusually cold winter and wet spring the substitution of tile arches for reinforced concrete did not expedite matters as was expected when the change was made. (See minutes of December 12, 1911, Report, 1912, p. 536). It was voted to grant this request of Mr. Stoolman's.

BOND FOR ORDNANCE AND ORDNANCE STORES.

On motion of Mr. Blair, the following resolution was passed:

Resolved, That "William L. Abbott, President of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, and Charles M. McConn, Secretary of the said board, be, and they hereby are, authorized to execute, for and in the name of the University of Illinois, a bond, in the penal amount of eighty thousand dollars ($80,000), in the form required by the War Department, to cover the safekeeping and return when required by the Secretary of War, of certain ordnance and ordnance stores already issued, about to be issued, and such as may be issued in the future; the aggregate value of all such issues not to exceed the sum of forty thousand dollars ($40,000). ASSIGNMENT OF FUNDS FOR S T U D E N T ASSISTANCE INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY. IN

President James reported that he had assigned the sum of twenty-five dollars ($25) a month, for the period of nine months beginning Octoher 1, 1912, for the employment of student assistance in connection with the work on industrial chemistry; this sum to be taken from the amount appropriated in the budget of July 5, 1912, for the salary of Dr. R. H. Jesse, Jr., resigned. On motion of Mr. Evans, this assignment was approved.
