The foregoing report of the supervising architect in regard to the bids and the contract for the foundations of the vegetable greenhouses was received for record.

S E T T L E M E N T W I T H T H E COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS A N D SURGEONS.

The secretary reported that under the action taken by the Executive Committee on August 23 (p. 93), the comptroller had effected a settlement with the College of Physicians and Surgeons, and presented for record the following certificate and agreement received by the comptroller from the College of Physicians and Surgeons as required by the vote of the board (P. 96):

August 29, 1912. I hereby certify that the property, plant and equipment leased by the University of Illinois on September 1, 1911, as described in the indenture of said date and the schedule thereto attached marked "Schedule A" (which bears the Signatures of D. A. K. Steele, President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, and S. W. Shattuck, Comptroller of the University of Illinois, for the purpose of identification), have been received by the College of Physicians and Surgeons from the University in good condition, as provided in Section 2 of the said indenture, and that the College of Physicians and Surgeons does waive all claims of every sort or description against the University of Illinois on account of the condition of the said property, plant, and equipment. The College of Physicians and Surgeons also agrees to pay any outstanding accounts against the Medical School and to assume any liabilities that may arise against the University as a result of its relations with the College of Physicians and Surgeons. APPOINTMENTS MADE BY T H E PRESIDENT OF T H E UNIVERSITY.

The secretary "presented the following report of appointments made by the President of the University to fill vacancies in the budget passed on July 5, 1912:

Ashley, June Maude, Graduate Assistant in Zoology, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a salary of thirty dollars ($30) a month. (September 3* 1912.)*. Atwell, Ruth Sarah, Assistant in Botany, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a salary of sixty dollars ($60) a month, vice Earl Sutton. (September 10, 1912.) Barlow, Bronson, Assistant in Bacteriology, at a salary of fifty dollars ($50) a month, beginning September 1, 1912, .and continuing until further notice or until August 31, 1913. (August 29, 1912.) Bartells, H. H., Research Assistant in Ceramics, on half time, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a salary of fifty dollars ($50) a month. (September 12, 1912.) Becker, A. J., Student Assistant in Chemistry, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a salary of ten dollars ($10) a month. (September 16, 1912.) Binding, Leo Ross, Assistant in Chemistry in the Agricultural Experiment Statioiij at a salary of seventy dollars ($70) a month, work and salary to begin as soon as he reports for service and" continue until August 31, 1913. (September 7, 1912.) Carter, Rpy? Assistant in General Engineering Drawing, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a :salary of one hundred dollars ($100) a month. (September 10, 1912.) ; . A., Assistant in Chemistry, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a salary of sixty dollars ($60) a month. (September 10, 1912.)
