(6) A recommendation that the Urbana and Champaign Railway, Gas, and Electric Company be requested to direct that all cars of the said company crossing the south campus in either direction shall come to a full stop at Burrill Avenue; this request being made on account of the noise arising from the rapid rate at which the cars now move through the campus, with the accompanying signaling necessary to warn people out of the way, and also on account of the danger to people crossing the south campus from such a rate of speed as the cars maintain a t the present time. It was voted to make such a request of the Urbana and Champaign Railway, Gas and Electric Company.

C O M P E N S A T I O N OF A C T I N G DEAN DANIELS.

(7) A recommendation that a compensation of fifty dollars ($50) a month additional to his. salary as professor of philosophy be granted to Dr. A. H. Daniels, for his services as Acting Dean of the College of Literature and A r t s ; the said extra compensation to begin from February 1, 1912, on which date Professor Daniels began his services as acting dean, and to continue during his incumbency of the position of acting dean. This recommendation was approved.

REAPPOINTMENT OF PROFESSOR GOODMAN.

(8) A communication from Mr. F. M. Goodman, former Dean of the School of Pharmacy and former Professor of Materia Medica and Botany in the School of Pharmacy, who was on leave of absence for the past year, stating that his health is now restored and that he should like to be reappointed. It was voted that the President of the University should he authorized to appoint Mr. Goodman to the position of Professor of Materia Medica and Botany in the School of Pharmacy, for the term of one year, beginning September 1, 1912, with such duties and at such a remuneration, not to exceed twelve hundred dollars ($1200), as the President of the University may determine after full examination of the curriculum and the needs of the school in the matter of instruction for the coming year. APPOINTMENTS MADE BY T H E PRESIDENT OF T H E UNIVERSITY. The secretary presented the following report of appointments made by the President and by the Vice-President of the University to fill vacancies in the budget passed on July 5, 1912: Baker, R. P., Graduate Assistant in Chemistry, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a salary of thirty dollars ($30) a month. (August 3, 1912.)* Bates, S. J., Research Associate in Chemistry, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, a t a salary of one hundred dollars ($100) a month. (August 12 1912 ) Burton, L. V., Graduate Assistant in Chemistry, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, a t a salary of thirty dollars ($30) a month, vice L. T. Fairhall. (July 29, 1912.) Clements, Miles, Toolroom Attendant in the Machine Shop, from May 1, 1912, to August 31, 1912, with a salary at the rate of five hundred fifty dollars ($550) for twelve months' service. * (July 26, 1912.) Davison, Burt S., Assistant in Chemistry, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a salary of fifty dollars ($50) a month, vice C. J. Baker. (August 12 1912 ) Faust, E. C , Research Assistant in Zoology, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a salary of sixty dollars ($60) a month. (August 16, 1912.) Gillet, C. E., Graduate Assistant in Chemistry, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a salary of thirty dollars ($30) a month, vice H. A. Webb, resigned. (August 16, 1912.) Gunn, Sidney, Instructor in English, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a salary of one hundred ten dollars ($110) a month. (August 12, 1912.) Hall, Royal Glen, Graduate Assistant in Zoology, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, a t a salary of thirty dollars ($30) a month. (August 5, 1912.) Hansen, Paul, Associate in Sanitary Engineering in the College of Engineering (in addition to being engineer in the State Water Survey), for the academic year beginning September 1, 1912, without salary. (August 17, 1912.) Heidelberger, Michael, Instructor in Chemistry, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912, at a salary of one hundred dollars ($100) a month. (August 3 1912.) Jordan, J. Clark, Instructor in English, for ten months beginning September 1, 1912; at a Salary of one hundred ^dollars ($100) a month. (August 17, 1912.) * The date in parenthesis at the end of each item is the date when the appointment was officially made.
