SUPERINTENDENTS OF CONSTRUCTION APPOINTED. (5) A recommendation that Mr. H. D. Oberdorfer, now employed as superintendent on Lincoln Hall, at a salary of $115.00 per month, be retained with the title of Superintendent of Construction, at the same salary, until July 1, 1912; to devote his time to the extensions of the heating, lighting, and power plant, to the determination of the various costs connected with our power plant operation, and to the investigation of the possibility of further economies in connection with certain phases of our operation; his salary to be paid from the State appropriation for the heating and lighting plant. This recommendation was approved. (6) A recommendation that Mr. J. B. Hutchings, Jr., be appointed superintendent of construction on the School of Commerce building and the addition to the Woman's building, at a salary of $150.00 per month, until Aug. 31, 1912; this salary to be paid jointly from the appropriations for the. two buildings. This recommendation was approved. APPROPRIATION FOR IMPROVEMENTS. (7) The following recommendation with respect to improvements in various University buildings:

Mr. W. L. Abbott, President Board of Trustees, University of Illinois: DEAR MB. ABBOTT—I recommend the appropriation of the necessary funds to make the following improvements, and that the specific authorization of the work be referred to the Buildings and Grounds Committee with power: Decorating Morrow hall $ 225 00 Painting and varnishing interior of the Woman's gymnasium room 300 00 Additional window shades in University hall. , 130 00 Lockers (148) for Men's gymnasium, (350) for Wood shop and (100) for University hall. 1,500 00 Fire escape for north end of Engineering hall 300 00 Fire escape for Law building 175 00 Two fire escapes for Agricultural building. 350 00 For ventilating toilet rooms in old,portion of the Natural History building , .,., 225 00 For lightning rods on buildings not now rodded, including Chemistry, Agricultural, Natural History, Agronomy, Farm Mechanics. * Beef Cattle, Horticultural and Woman's building, new Dairy barn, Men's gymnasium, Wood shops, Metal shop, Hydraulic laboratory, carriage and tool house 2,500 00 For finishing faculty tennis courts. 100 00 Repairs to Electrical Engineering laboratory, made necessary by its being used in the past for an engine room 400 00 Improved lighting in library. 400 00 We should have installed on the campus in the various buildings 75 soap dispensers and 35 drinking fountains. We have been investigating the different types now on the market and have practically decided what fixtures to purchase. I recommend that $1,000.00 be appropriated for the installation of approximately half the above number of each at the present time, and for the purchase of liquid soap. Yours truly,
