A. H'AUGAN, Treasurer. UNIVERSITY TELEPHONE SERVICE. President James presented the following report of the supervising architect, which was received for record: URBANA, Dec. 3, 1910. To the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, Board of Trustees, University of Illinois: At the request of President James, I submit herewith a report on the University telephone service. The expenses to be met on account of this service are the supplies and labor for the maintenance of our own automatic system, which we estimate at $3.00 per year per telephone, amounting at present to $579.00; the installing of new telephones (from cable terminals) will average about $5.00 for wiring to each instrument, $4.00 for the switch-board bank, $13.50 for the selector to go on the switch-board, and $14.00 for the desk instrument, making a total cost for installing a new telephone of $32.50. It has been customary to charge the departments with the expense of the desk telephones and selector,.and to charge the labor of installing and the switch-board bank against the special telephone appropriation. We have direct connection through our switch-board with the Champaign and Urbana Home Telephone Company's lines, and we are operating under
