sary steps under section 5 of the Illinois statutes, chapter 110-A, to summon the said Gordon H. Somers to show cause why his Certificate of Certified Public Accountant should not be revoked.

Board of Examiners. Voted t h a t the University Committee on Public Accountancy be authorized to cite Mr. Gordon H . Somers to appear before them for a hearing; to hear evidence, make a finding and then recommend to the Board of Trustees t h a t the certificate be revoked or the complaint against Mr. Somers be dismissed. DONATION OF LOCOMOTIVE TESTING PLANT. 5. A communication from Dean W. F. M. Goss of the College of Engineering stating that the Chicago and Northwestern Railway Company has presented to the University of Illinois the locomotive testing plant which for a number of years has been in use at its 40th street shops in Chicago. • Voted t h a t said gift be accepted and the thanks of the Board of Trustees be given to the said railway'company for its gift. APPOINTMENTS—VACANCIES FILLED. 6. Recommendation that Edward Bartow be appointed Professor of Analytical Chemistry and Director of the Water Survey at a salary of three thousand dollars ($3,000.00) per annum, beginning: Sept. 1, .1910. Voted that said recommendation be approved. 7. (1) A recommendation that Edward Sampson Thurston be appointed Professor of Law at a salary of thirty-five hundred dollars per annum, beginning Sept. 1, 1910. On motion of Dr. Davison, and by the following vote, the appointment was m a d e : Yeas, Abbott, Mrs. Bahrenburg, Crebs, Davison,.Mrs. Evans, Grout, H a t c h ; nays, none; absent, Blair, Mrs. Busey, Governor Deneen, Meeker and Moore. (2) That John Norton Pomeroy be appointed assistant professor of law for one year, beginning Sept. 1, 1910, at a salary of twenty-two hundred dollars ($2,200.00) per annum. On motion of Mr. Hatch, and by the following vote, the appointment was m a d e : Yeas, Abbott, Mrs. Bahrenburg, Crebs, Davison, Mrs. Evans, Grout, H a t c h ; nays, n o n e ; absent, Blair, Mrs. Busey, Governor Deneen, Meeker and Moore. 8. (a) Recommended that the president of the University be authorized to fill all vacancies in the staff of the University, according to the budget adopted, as may occur during the vacation because of resignation or declination. (b) Recommended that the president of the University be authorized to accept such resignations in the instructional and administrative staff as may be presented during the vacation. Voted that said recommendations be approved. 9. Request by Prof. Thomas W. Hughes for leave of absence for one year on half salary. Voted, on motion of Mrs. Bahrenburg, that said leave be granted.
