Meeting of July 21, 1909.

A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held at the Palmer House in Chicago J u l y £1, 1909, pursuant to the following notice, which was sent out by the secretary J u l y 16, 1909: By order of the President, Mr. W. L. Abbott, there will be a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois at the Palmer House, in Chicago, at 10 o'clock a. m., July 21, 1909, to consider communications from the President, and to transact other business duly presented. When the board met pursuant to this call the following members were present: Messrs. Abbott, Blair, Crebs, Davison, Grout, Hatch and Moore and Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Busey; absent,. Governor Deneen and Mr. Meeker and Mrs. Bahrenburg. President James was present. The secretary presented the minutes of the meeting of J u n e 24, 1909. The approval, however, was deferred until later.

BUDGET TOR T H E Y E A R 1908-09.

President James presented the budget for the year 1908-09, and discussion at considerable length followed.

P U B L I C A T I O N OF R E S U L T S OF S O I L SURVEY.

During the discussion of the budget the question of using a part of the funds appropriated for the Soil Survey for publication of results was referred to the Committee on Agriculture, and this committee later made the following report, which was adopted:

CHICAGO, July 21, 1909.

To the Board of Trustees: . Your Committee on Agriculture, to which was referred the question as to the use of the funds appropriated to the department of Agronomy by the General Assembly, recommends that a portion of the money be used for the publication of results already ascertained in the soil survey of the State, instead of using all that can be devoted to this purpose ^for the extension of the survdy.
