Meeting of March 9, 1909.

The annual meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held at the University, pursuant to call, at 9 :00 o'clock a. m.. Tuesday, March 9, 1909. The members present were: Messrs. Abbott, Davison, Grout, Hatch, and Mrs. . EVans, Mrs. Alexander and Mrs. Busey; absent, Governor; Deneen, Messrs. Blair, Crebs and Meeker. Mrs. Evans and Mr. Grout, who had been elected members of the* board at the November election, took the oath of office before the opening of the session. Mr. Allen P . Moore, also elected last November, came* in a little later and after taking the oath of office took his seat with theboard. President James was present. • The secretary presented the minutes of the board, and later during the session these were approved as presented. The Committee on Buildings and Grounds made the following report,, which was received for record:

UBBANA, March 9, 1909.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois: Your Buildings and Grounds Committee begs leave to report that at a meeting held at the University, Jan. 23, 1909, it instructed the Supervising Architect, Mr. James M. White, to authorize Mr. Johst, contractor on the Physics building, to proceed with the following extras: Construction of a fan room and work shop north of the Physics building $6,425 00. Changes in roof of Physics building, providing for photographic skylight and two additional dormers 900 00 Changes in entrance to Physics building 192 00 Concreting the basement of the entire Physics building, estimated cost , 2,000 0O Additional wiring in Physics building 680 00 Your committee acting under instructions given by the board (see p. 93 of the minutes of the meeting of Jan. 15, 1909) authorized Mr. Abbott, chairman, to employ an architect for the buildings. Pursuant to this actionMr. W. Carbys Zimmerman has been engaged as consulting architect for the University on terms named in the following letter:

Mr. W. Garhys Zimmerman, Architect, Steinway Building, Chicago: DEAE SIE—Agreeable to our recent conversation on the subject, you are hereby appointed Consulting Architect of the University of Illinois, on the Physics building and the Natural History building, now under construction.. —7 IT
