introduce a bill in the Legislature relieving the University of this duty of conducting examinations for certified public accountant. 6. A letter from the editor of University Studies calling attention to the fact that no appropriation was made during the past year for the continuation of the Studies, and asking that $1,200.00 be appropriated for this purpose. Voted that such appropriation be made. 7. A letter from the editor of University Studies asking for authority to print a bulletin prepared by Professor Grindley on Methods of Roasting Meat, including therein four colored plates. The expense of printing the bulletin, including the making of the plates for an edition of 1,000 is estimated at $430.00. Voted that the editor of University Studies-be authorized to include such bulletin as a number of the Studies. '. 8. A report from the Council of Administration on a set of rules regarding the use of Woman's Hall. Referred to the Committee of the Board of Trustees on Student Welfare, for consideration and report at this meeting. 9. A letter from Professor Rolfe in regard to the appropriation of 14,000.00 which was asked from the board of trustees at the last meeting for the Department of Geology, the consideration of which appropriation had been postponed. Voted that an appropriation of $2,000.00 be made for the purpose of equipment in the Department of Geology. 10. A request from Dr. N. C. Brooks, assistant professor of German, for leave of absence during the coming year for the purpose of study in Europe. Voted that said request be granted on the usual terms. 11. A letter from Dr. C. F. Newcomb, of Champaign, 111., in regard. to a board of medical examiners to determine the circumstances under which students may be excused from military drill. Voted that the president of the board of trustees appoint a regimental surgeon to whom all applicants for exemption from military drill shall be referred, the applicant paying the fee for examination. 12. A communication from W. B. Day, actuary of the School of Pharmacy, calling attention to the fact that Albert E. Ebert, for many years a member of the board of pharmacy of the University, had died since the last meeting of the board. Voted that the following resolutions be adopted: WHEREAS, I t has pleased an all-wise Providence to remove from the scene of his earthly labors our friend and co-worker, Albert E. Ebert; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ebert's untiring devotion to his profession and his almost life-long interest in the School of Pharmacy are worthy of our greatest respect; be it Resolved, That the trustees and officers of the University of Illinois recognize in Mr. Ebert's death the loss of an unselfish worker and a faithful friend, and be it further Resolved, That these resolutions be spread upon our minutes as a mark of our repect, and that copies be sent to the School of Pharmacy and to the Chicago Veteran Druggists' Association. 13. A letter from Professor H. A. Hollister calling attention to the fact that the balance of the appropriation made last year for the expenses of the high school conference had lapsed in July, before the bill for printing the report of the conference could be obtained from Pontiac, and a request that this amount be re-appropriated for the present year.
