Meeting of May 2, 1908.

A special meeting of the Board of .Trustees of the University of Illinois was held at the Palmer House in Chicago, May 2, 1908, pursuant to the following notice which was sent out by the Secretary, April 25, 1908:

Upon the call of the President, Mr. W. L. Abbott, there will be a meeting" of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois at the Palmer House in Chicago, at 9:00 o'clock a. m., Saturday, May 2, 1908, to consider unfinished business and such other business as, may be duly presented.

When the Board met pursuant to this call the following members were present: Messrs. Abbott, Blair, Davison, Hatch, Lehman and Mrs. Evans, and Mrs. Busey; absent, Governor Deneen and Mrs. Alexander. Mr. Madden came in a little later. President James was present.

MATTERS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT JAMES.

The President of the University submitted the following ,matters for consideration:

OFFICE OF DEAN OF UNDERGRADUATES. 1. Communication from Dean Clark as to the duties of the Dean of Undergraduates and the consequent necessity of more adequate provision for doing the work.

Voted on motion of Mr. Blair: 1. That the President be authorized to appoint an Assistant Dean of Undergraduates whose duties will be to assist the Dean of Undergraduates in such ways as he may determine, at a remuneration of not to exceed five hundred dollars. 2. That, such rearrangement of the Office of the Dean of Undergraduates be made as shall give the Assistant Dean a suitable place to do his work. 3. That the President of the University may appoint a regular clerk to the Dean of Undergraduates on half or two-thirds time to have general charge of the office at a remuneration of not to exceed live hundred dollars for twelve months.

APPOINTMENTS. 2. I reccommend that James Ingersoll Wyer be appointed University Librarian and Director of the Library School at a salary of three thousand dollars per annum, work and salary to begin September 1, 1908.

Voted that such appointment be, made.
