CHICAGO, I I I . , August 20, 1907.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois: The Buildings and Grounds Committee at a meeting August 15th approved a request of President James to have alterations made to the president's house at an estimated cost of $250.00. It also approved a request of Professor Rolfe. to have an addition built to his present kiln house at an expense of about $100.00. This last item payable from the ceramics fund. Very truly yours,

The board approved the action of the committee in ordering the addition to the Ceramics building. I t also approved, on motion of Mr. Hatch, the action of the committee in ordering the change in the president's house. Mrs. Busey voted no on this motion.

F L A N S FOR N E W B U I L D I N G S .

President Abbott recommended that on account of difficulties in the way of employing an outside architect to prepare plans for the new buildings, the State Architect be requested to prepare the plans at once. On motion of Mr. McLean, it was voted that the State Architect^ Mr. W. Carbys Zimmerman, be requested to prepare plans for the buildings. The secretary was directed to write Mr. Zimmerman telling him of this action of the board.

F I X T U R E S FOR L I G H T I N G AUDITORIUM.

I t was ordered t h a t a contract for electric fixtures be made with the Chicago Gas & Electric Fixture Company. An additional amount of $303.50 was appropriated for this purpose. ^

C H A I R S FOR- T H E AUDITORIUM.

The special committee (page 160) which was instructed to purchase chairs for the Auditorium reported that the " F e w Y o r k " chair had been purchased of the Superior Manufacturing Company of Muskegon, Michigan, at $2.07 a chair adjusted and set in place upon the floor of the Auditorium.

F E N C E S ON T H E HORTICULTURAL GROUNDS.

A communication from Professor Shattuck with regard to a contract for fencing on the horticultural grounds was referred to the Committee on Agriculture for investigation and report.
