8. I submit to be filed with the secretary a letter concerning the investigation of the effects of saltpetre used as a preservative of meat products, in which a further fifteen thousand dollars is guaranteed (in addition to the guarantee of Dec. 7, 1906) toward the expense of this investigation.

ELEVATOR IN UNIVERSITY HALL.

Mrs. Busey, Chairman of the Committee on Students' Welfare, reported that the committee recommended putting an elevator for the use of women in University Hall, and moved that the question be referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds for.report as to plans and cost. The motion was passed. The board took a recess to 9 :00 a. m. Tuesday.

Session of Tuesday, June 11, 1907.

When the board met pursuant to adjournment, President Abbott being absent, Mrs. Busey was chosen president pro tempore. The secretary presented to the board a cordial invitation from Professor Baker, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association of the University, to attend the public meeting and the banquet of the association, and the invitation was accepted. The board then took a recess to 9 :00 a. m. Wednesday.

The board met pursuant to. adjournment and, without the transaction, of further business, adjourned.

Meeting of the Executive Committee.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held at the University at 9 :'00 o'clock a. m., J u n e 28, 1907. Messrs. Abbott and Lehman were present. Mrs. Alexander, who was ill, was absent. President James was present and also other members of the board, Dr. Davison, Mr. McLean, Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Busey.

CROSSING T H E CAMPUS BY T H E S T R E E T CAR COMPANY.

After a discussion of the question relating to the crossing of the campus with the street car company in consultation with Judge Harker, the Executive Committee adopted the following: Resolved, That the chairman of the Executive Committee be authorized and instructed to take such steps as may be necessary to protect the interests of the University in the matter of laying a street car line across the University grounds.
