President H a t c h presented a communication from the Chicago Alumnae Association asking that the new building for women be named Gregory Hall, and it was ordered that the paper be filed with other papers regarding the naming of the building.

S C H O O L OF E D U C A T I O N .

T h e following resolution from M r s . Abbott was adopted: Resolved, That a special committee of three, of which Mr. Bayliss should he chairman, he appointed to report to the Board upon the advisability of establishing a school of education with special reference to the preparation of teachers for secondary schools. T h e President appointed on this commtitee M r . Bayliss, M r s . A b bott and Mr. Nightingale.

TELEPHONES.

T h e following recommendations submitted by Professor M o r g a n Brooks, of the electrical engineering department, and M r . J. A. Morrow, Superintendent of Buildings, were adopted. 1. The removal of the Home Telephone Company instruments and connection of their system through our automatic exchange. 2. The extension of the- Central Union system moderately, without increased expense, by using party line telephones, except in the President's office and house. 3. Provision for the extension of our automatic system to keep pace with the growth of the University, the estimated cost of this in two years being $900. I t was voted to accept the following proposition from the H o m e Telephone Company:

T H E HOME TELEPHONE COMPANY OF CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS, Dec. 12, 1904.

President Edmund J. James, University of Illinois: The Home Telephone Company of Champaign county hereby submits the following proposition for telephone service at the University: We will install in our office the necessary equipment required to connect "our system in both Champaign and Urbana with the automatic system now in use at the University, without expense to the University. We will furnish service for the entire University system, if this connection is made with the automatic, for $75 a year.

We propose at first to install three metallic circuits to Chmapaign and one to Urbana,,and will install further lines if .found necessary.

By LON LEE, Manager. I t was also voted that the connection with the University telephone system should be made without restriction so that all the telephones ,of the system might receive incoming calls. T h e Board adjourned to meet at 9:00 o'clock a, m., Monday, February 20, 1905.
