17. A request from the Rev. Mr. Tobie that the use of the chapel or some other suitable room in the University be granted to him and his congregation during the process of the erection of a new church on the present site of the Parks Memorial chapel, from March 1 to November 1, 1905. I t was voted to g r a n t the request under such conditions as to payment for janitor service and heating as the President of the University might prescribe. 18. A statement that Dean T. A. Clark has been approved by the President as Director of the Summer School, and a suggestion that a conference be held during the Summer School upon the problem of the rural school, and that to this conference the school directors, or some representatives chosen by them, be invited. T h e suggestion was concurred in. 19. A statement that the Clay Workers' Association of the State was desirous of securing an appropriation from the Legislature for an economic survey of the State, embracing particularly the materials of use by the ceramic industry. They propose to put the survey under the charge of the State University. Voted to accept the appropriation, if secured, and undertake the work indicated. 20. A statement that certain persons interested in the improvement of charitable and philanthropic conditions of the State were planning to secure an appropriation from the State Legislature to establish a school for training of philanthropic and charitable workers, hoping that the State University would accept the appropriation and undertake the work. Voted to accept this trust, if conferred by the Legislature and accompanied by adequate appropriations. 21. A statement as to the possibility of a general geological survey of the State and the attitude which the State University should take toward such a survey. Voted that the President pursue such course with reference to the survey as he should find best. LEGISLATIVE APPROPRIATIONS. * 22. The report of the committee appointed by the Board upon the legislative appropriations for the biennium 1905-1907. A careful and prolonged discussion followed, in the course of which several items were changed as follows: 17a was added, Mr. Kerrick, at his own request, being recorded as voting no. 18 was raised from $2,000 to $3,000. 20 was raised from $10,000 to $35,000. 22 was changed from "for .purchase of land, $10,000" to the form in which it appears below. Item 24 was approved, Mr. Kerrick, at his own request, being recorded as voting no.
