COAL CONTRACTS, 1905-6.

T h e Committee on Buildings a n d Grounds made the following report with regard to the contracts entered into for coal supplies for 1905-6 a n d for hauling t h e s a m e :

URBANA, September 12, 1905.

To the Board of Trustees: At the June meeting the Board instructed the Committee on Buildings and Grounds to obtain proposals for coal for the year begining September 1, 1905, and bids for hauling the same and to contract therefor if suitable bids were received. Your Committee reports that proposals were publicly invited for coal and for hauling the same to be in the hands of the Secretary, Mr. Pillsbury, July 20, 1905. Notices were published in three papers in Champaign and three in Springfield for ten days prior to the 20th day of July; and in addition thereto notices were mailed to about thirty large coal dealers and operators whose names and addresses were obtained by the Committee. ;" In response the following proposals were received: Dering Coal Company, Chicago—15,000 tons 1" x 2" nut coal from Pais ley, Illinois, $1,694 per ton delivered at Urbana, $1,704 per ton delivered at Champaign. . Springfield Coal Mining Company, Chicago—15,000 tons No.. 2 nut or pea coal, $1.50 per ton delivered at Urbana; 15,000 tons screenings containing No, 2 nut and slack, $1.20 per ton.
