UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS.

Afternoon Session, June 5, 1905. When the Board met after the recess the same members were present as in the morning.

INSTALLATION CEREMONIES.

The plan for installation ceremonies as proposed by Dr. Kinley consisted of exercises beginning Sunday* October 15th, and continuing until Friday, October 20th, and the estimate of expenses was $5,650 in addition to the $600 previously appropriated. After discussion it was voted, on motion of Mr. Bayliss, that $4,000 be appropriated for expenses and that the ceremonies be continued during .three days, October 17th, 18th and 19th. Mr. Abbott moved to reconsider in order that the question of time might be further considered. Upon explanation by Dr. Kinley as to the character of the ceremonies on the several days, it was voted to amend by making the time therefor the same as proposed by the committee—from Sunday, October 15th, to Friday, October 20th, inclusive—and the motion as amended was adopted.

OFFICE OF THE BUSINESS MANAGER.

The question of adjustment in the office of the Business Manager made necessary by the resignation of Professor Shattuck, was referred to the President and the Committee on Finance, with instructions to report at the adjourned session, June 23d.

FIRE ALARM SYSTEM.

Upon recommendation of the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, it was voted to install a fire alarm system offered by the Western Electric Company as follows:

The Superintendent of Buildings was instructed to purchase and install the same and the sum of $500, or so much thereof as might be needed, was appropriated therefor.

HEATING PLANT.

The following letter was received from Professor Breckenridge: URBANA, ILLINOIS, June 1, 1905. Hon. S. A. Bullard, President Board of Trustees: MY DEAR SIR—It was exceedingly unfortunate that we failed to get the appropriation of $35,000 for extending the heating plant.
