COMMUNICATIONS FROM PRESIDENT DRAPER.

lo the Board oj Irustees oj the University of Illinois: 1. Last spring Miss Elizabeth Sprague was appointed instructor in household science, but has never entered upon the position, because of ill health. It has been expected, all along, that in a little time she would be ready to commence work, but circumstances now seem to make it necessary for her to be released from the engagement altogether, and she has so requested. I therefore recommend the appointment of Miss Cornelia Elizabeth Simon as assistant in household science for seven months, commencing Dec. 1, 1900, at $70 per month. Miss Simon is a graduate of the Lewis Institute, Chicago, and has served one year as assistant in the household science work of that institution. 2. I transmit two letters on behalf of students in the College of Law, asking that they be given free scholarships, or that their fees be remitted. 3. I transmit a communication from Professor Walter Howe Jones in reference to his salary. 4. The reports of the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station are herewith transmitted, with the recommendation that the appropriations asked for for the quarter ending March 31, 1901, be made as follows:
