O n m o t t o n of M r s . Flower, t h e following resolution of t h a n k s t o S e n a t o r H . M. D u n l a p was a d o p t e d : Resolved, That the Board of Trustees is grateful to Senator Henry M. Dunlap for the good judgment and tireless energy which has made him such an important factor in securing University appropriations of unprecedented liberality. O n motion of Mr. N i g h t i n g a l e , t h e following resolution w a s adopted: Resolved, That when we return to the Forty-first General Assembly the appreciative acknowledgements of all friends of the University for that generous treatment of University interests which will enable it to take still more advanced ground. We take the same as proof of the desire of all of the people of the State and their State University shall occupy a position of first prominence in the country, and we give renewed assurances of every effort on our part to attain that desireable end. STATE LABORATORY OF NATURAL HISTORY.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN:—The Legislative appropriations in support of the State work for which I am responsible as State Entomologist and as Director of the State Laboratory of Natural History were made at the last session according to the plan proposed to you at your January meeting inlChicago; that is, as items in the general appropriation bill for the expenses of the State Government, instead of in an independent bill as heretofore. The sums appropriated are $4,000 per annum to the State Entomologist and $9,000 per annum to the State Laboratory of Natural History, making $13,000 per annum instead of $11,000 per annum appropriated at the last session.
