Mr. Smith offered the following resolution which was adopted: Resolved, That Messrs. McKay and McLean be appointed a special committee to examine personally the records and books in the hands of the Treasurer of this University and to satisfy themselves in such manner as they may deem proper that he has on hand the funds belonging to the University, and report their action to this Board at its next meeting. Mr. Bullard, from the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, to which the matter had been referred (seepage 139), reported recommending an appropriation of $130.00 for laying a compressed air main from the Heating Station to the large buildings on the south side of the campus, and one of $50.00 for additional coal bins; also an appropriation of $50.00 for steps and bench in switchboard room and cases for the electric light plant. The recommendation of the Committee was approved. Mr. Bullard also reported from the Committee on Buildings and Grounds in the matter of heating, ventilation, etc., of the Library Building, which had been referred to the committee, that the committee recommend that Messrs. Kicker, White and Spencer continue their observations especially with reference to the wall stains, and, if they find the'stains do not disappear, make all necessary investigations to ascertain their causes and report to the Board. , Mr. Bullard from the same committee recommended the payment of $331.25 to Professor Breckenridge, in full (in addition to previous payments) for services rendered in the construction of the Central Heating plant; and of $40.00 to Professor Temple for plans and specifications for the new Experiment Station barn. The recommendations were approved and the appropriations were made.

LEGISLATIVE APPROPRIATIONS.

The committee on legislative appropriations made the following report: lo the Board of Trustees, The committee on application to the Legislature for University appropriations recommends the following: 1st. That the Legislature be asked to include in the "General Appropriation Bill" an amount sufficient to meet the interest on our endowment for two years beginning July L, 1899, as provided by act of 1897 referring thereto. 2d. That a special bill be introduced to correct the error in the act of 1897 referring to the endowment, by reason of which the interest has not been paid for several months immediately following the loss of the funds. 3d. That an appropriation be asked for $4,166.61 to reimburse the funds for the amount paid to repair the damage to the Natural History Building caused by lightning and fire in June, 1897.
