M i n u t e s of t h e previous m e e t i n g were read and approved, after att a c h i n g an a m e n d m e n t e x p l a i n i n g the absence of Mr. Morrison a t t h e last m e e t i n g of t h e Board. T h e following resolution was i n t r o d u c e d b y Mr. Morrison, a n d adopted by .the B o a r d : yBesolved, That this Station continue its work in Southern Illinois; that the Director be empowered to procure a suitable piece of land, not less than 10 acres, if the same can be had at a reasonable rental, for such experimental work; that experiments be made in fertilization, rotation of crops, cultivation of grasses, drainage, and irrigation, and in such other lines as the Director and this Board may deem advisable; that the rental of land mentioned shall be 'or a term of not less than five years, so that intelligent experimental work may be done. T h e D i r e c t o r ' s r e p o r t with e s t i m a t e s for t h e c o m i n g q u a r t e r w a s read a n d adopted b y a u n a n i m o u s vote. I n connection with t h e p a r a g r a p h in t h e r e p o r t r e l a t i n g to S t a t e aid for e x p e r i m e n t a t i o n t h e following resolution was adopted. Resolved, That the advisory board endorses the idea of a State appropriation for the study of special agricultural problems of the State, and believes that the sum of $10,000 should be appropriated by the State to be divided equally between the study of the peculiar soils of Illinois and the benefit of her hprticultural interests, the same to be expended under the direction of the Agricultural Experiment Station. T h e following resolution was adopted b y a vote of t h r e e in t h e affirmative a n d n o n e in t h e n e g a t i v e : * Resolved, That the advisory board recognizes the great service rendered agricultural interests at the University by Mr.Morrison and Mr.Raymond, and that it notes with deep regret the expiration of their term of office,'and that our pleasant official relations are about to be severed.
