furnish from that time meals prepared according to the most widely accepted dietary standards and especially adapted to the needs of students, such meals : to be attractive, palatable, digestible and prepared with every scientific precaution; that said lunch room be made thoroughly educational in its features and adapted to the better nourishment of students; that the same may be prepared so as to begin serving students with the opening of the University year in 1900: and that all arrangements be made in the meantime for inaugurating such enterprise and notice thereof with a statement of its purposes and advantages be inserted in the next catalogue of the Uniyersity. M r s . F l o w e r offered t h e following resolution which was a d o p t e d :

UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS.

Besolved, That the President of the University, the Business Manager, and the Chairman of the Committee on the School of Medicine, be requested to confer with the officers and stockholders of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, or their representatives, and ascertain and report to the Board what terms can be arranged for a permanent union of the University and the College of Physicians and Surgeons upon a basis of the University ultimately acquiring the title to the property of said College. M r s C a r r i e l offered a resolution with r e g a r d to q u a r t e r l y reportsfrom t h e D e a n s of t h e several colleges. ~ M r s . F l o w e r offered a s u b s t i t u t e to t h i s resolution. T h e s u b s t i t u t e was voted down, a n d t h e n t h e whole q u e s t i o n was referred to M r s . Carriel a n d M r s . F l o w e r t o r e p o r t u p o n at t h e n e x t m e e t i n g of t h e Board. T h e C o m m i t t e e on A g r i c u l t u r e offered t h e following r e p o r t s :

NORTH FARM. ,

URBANA, ILLINOIS, September 12, 1899.

lo the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. Your Committee respectfully reports that it has ordered that as far as possible the location, size, and depth of existing drains be determined, and that two maps of the north farm be made; one for the use of the Trustees and the other for the use of the farm. The Committee recommends, 1. That appropriations be made for draining the horticultural grounds in accordance with the plans shown by a map of the horticultural plat. As the present drain is too small to carry but a small part of the water, it will be necessary to run a twelve-inch main to the slit basin south of University HalL 2. That a brick wall be put under the tool barn and that a new roof be put on the warehouse. 3. That the barbed wire fence about the barns and lanes be replaced by a suitable stock fence, and that the posts for the fence on the north, west, and south of plats 1, 2, 15, 16, and 17, and on the south of plats 13 and 14 be replaced by new posts. Your Committee recommends that appropriations be made for these purposes as follows:
