BOARD OF TRUSTEES

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS,

FOR THE

Year Ending August 31, 1899.

MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 20, 1898.

The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois met in the Trustees' Room, Library Building, Urbana, Illinois, at 9 o'clock a. m., Tuesday, September 20, 1898. The members present .were Messrs. Armstrong, Freeman, McKay* McLean, Raymond, and Smith and Mrs. Flower and Mrs. Carried Messrs. Bullard and Morrison came in a little later; the members absent were Governor Tanner and Mr. Pearce. I t was ordered that a requisition be drawn in favor of the State commissioners to meet the bills of Wilson, Moore & Mcllvane for services in the Spalding matter, and against the fund appropriated by the Legislature to pay such expenses. The secretary presented the minutes of the regular meeting of the board held June 7 and 8, 1898, and of the special meeting of July 7, 1898. A motion was made to approve the minutes as presented. Some discussion followed, during which President McKay asked Mr. Smith to take the chair. Mr. McKay moved to amend the proceedings of the meeting of J u n e 7, 1898, by striking out the report from the Committee on Instruction in relation to physics and electrical engineering. (See page 88.) The roll was called upon this amendment and it was lost by the following vote: Yeas, Messrs. Armstrong and McKay; nays, Messrs. Freeman, Morrison, Raymond, McLean, Bullard, and Smith and Mrs. Carriel and Mrs. Flower. The proceedings were approved by the following vote: Messrs. Freeman, Morrison, Armstrong, Raymond, McLean, Bullard, and Smith and Mrs. Flower and Mrs. Carriel; nay, Mr. McKay.
