On motion of Mr. Smith, the bid of Valentine Jobst & Sons on the general contract was accepted. Mr. McKay moved to reject the bids on plumbing and drainage and on steam heating. Mr. Smith moved to add as an amendment, "and to proceed at once to let contracts for plumbing and drainage and for steam heating on a satisfactory private bid, if one should be obtained." This amendment failed on the following vote: Yeas, Smith; nays, Bullard, McKay, McLean, Flower, Carriel, Abbott. Mr. Bullard then moved as a substitute that the Board accept the bid of Baumgarten Bros., of Chicago, on plumbing and drainage at $11,396.00, provided the claim for extras as named in the bid be waived; and the bid of Thomas & Smith, of Chicago, on steam heating apparatus, $14,786 00. The substitute prevailed. On motion of Mr. Smith, the Board adjourned to 1:30 p. m.
