Mr. P e a r c e was also obliged to withdraw at t h i s time. O n motion of M r . S m i t h $100.00, or so m u c h thereof a s m i g h t b e needed, was a p p r o p r i a t e d towards p a y i n g t h e expenses of t h e A l u m n i dinner. To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. Your Committee on Students' Welfare begs leave to report that it will answer the communications from physicians with regard to elevators in University building, saying that their letters have received careful attention, that the Board appreciates the importance of the subject, and hopes that, when the finances of the University will permit, the defect referred to may be remedied.

Committee on Students' Welfare, T h e report was approved. T h e following resolution presented b y Mr. B u l l a r d was a d o p t e d : Eesolved, That hereafter the recommendations of the President shall b e presented to the Board with such explanation thereon as he may see fit to • offer; that by general consent action may be had thereon at once; and that upon the request of any member any recommendation shall be referred to> the proper committee for report at the same meeting* of the Board. U p o n motion of M r . Morrison, t h e m a t t e r of r e m o v i n g t h e old1 h e a t i n g p l a n t was referred to t h e C o m m i t t e e on B u i l d i n g s a n d G r o u n d s with power to act. P r e s i d e n t D r a p e r ' s bill of expenses since J a n u a r y 1, 1898, a m o u n t ing to $88.65, was ordered paid. T h e B o a r d t h e n adjourned to meet a t 9 o'clock, W e d n e s d a y m o r n ing.
