To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois: GENTLEMEN: Your committee on bids for furnishing coal for the University for the ensuing1 year, after careful investigation, would recommend that the order for supplying coal be awarded to the Odin Coal Company at the prices named in its bids, and that the Business Manager be authorized to carry out the terms of this report. Respectfully submitted,

I t was voted t h a t t h e j a n i t o r s receiving n o t to exceed $35 a m o n t h should be p a i d an a d d i t i o n a l $2 a m o n t h ; also t h a t it s h o u l d be left to C a p t a i n B r u s h a n d t h e S u p e r i n t e n d e n t of B u i l d i n g s a n d G r o u n d s to d e t e r m i n e of w h a t t h e uniform should consist, which, b y t h e action already taken, t h e j a n i t o r s about t h e U n i v e r s i t y are r e q u i r e d to wear hereafter/ I t was ordered t h a t t h e B u s i n e s s M a n a g e r should get w a t c h m a n ' s registers or clocks a n d have them placed on t h e u p p e r floors of each of t h e b u i l d i n g s to be inspected by t h e n i g h t w a t c h m a n . An approp r i a t i o n of $100 was made therefor. Professor S h a t t u c k was a p p o i n t e d B u s i n e s s M a n a g e r , t h e a p p o i n t ment to commence S e p t e m b e r ] , 1896, a n d to c o n t i n u e until o t h e r wise ordered; salary $600 a year. I t was ordered t h a t t h e fees for i n s t r u c t i o n u p o n t h e violm a n d o t h e r s t r i n g e d i n s t r u m e n t s should be,
