4. That scrub w6men be employed as may be necessary at $1.00 per day r and that $1,000.00 be appropriated for that purpose. All help employed by the Superintendent of Building and Grounds shall be employed pursuant to the rules and under the authority here conferred, but shall be kept under employment only when in his judgment it is necessary. It will be necessary to appoint another and possibly two instructors in mathematics at from $70.00 to $80.00 per month for ten months, but I am not ready to nominate, and ask authority to fill one or both of these places, as may be necessary; and also to appoint assistants in the departments of mechanical engineering, general engineering drawing, and entomology, the headsof these departments being not yet ready to make recommendations. It is recommended that all appointments and changes take effect on September 1, 1898, unless otherwise specially noted.'

FELLOWS.

Upon the nomination of the faculty, I recommend the appointment of fellows • for the ensuing year with a stipend of $300.00 for each: College of Literature and Arts, department of English, Lucy Carson; department of art and design, Emma E. Seibert. College of Science, department of physiology, Louise A. Dewey; department of mathematics and astronomy, Harry C. Coffeen. School of Law, Charles A. l£lotz.

APPROPRIATIONS.

It is recommended that the following appropriations be made £or miscellaneous expenses*.
