T h e B o a r d of T r u s t e e s of t h e . U n i v e r s i t y of Illinois met in t h e T r u s t e e s ' R o o m , L i b r a r y Hall,. U r b a n a , Illinois, at 9 o'clock a. m., Tuesday, J u n e 7,1898. T h e m e m b e r s p r e s e n t were Messrs. A r m s t r o n g , Bullard, M c K a y , M c L e a n , Morrison, P e a r c e , R a y m o n d , S m i t h and M r s . Flower a n d Mrs. C a r r i e l ; absent, Governor T a n n e r . T h e proceedings of t h e B o a r d for t h e m e e t i n g s of M a r c h 8, 1898, a n d A p r i l 19, 1898, were p r e s e n t e d by the Secretary a n d approved.

COMMUNICATIONS FROM P R E S I D E N T DRAPER.

P r e s i d e n t D r a p e r presented p a p e r s as follows: lo the Board of Trustees*. I respectfully make the following* recommendations touching the Corps of Instructions for the next year:

DEANS.

1. That the present deans of the several colleges and of the woman's department be reappointed.

PROMOTIONS AND SALARIES OF PROFESSORS.

1. That William D. Pence, assistant professor of civil engineering', be made associate professor of civil engineering. 2. That the salary of Frank F. Frederick, professor of art and design, be made $2,000. 3. That the salary'of Charles C. Pickett, professor of law, be made $2,100. 4. That the salary of James M. White, associate.professor of architecture, be made $1,700. 5. That the salary of Frank Smith, assistant professor of zoology, be made $1,400. 6. That Violet D. Jayne, assistant professor of the English language and literature, be made associate professor of the English language and literature, and that her salary be made $1,600. 7. That the salary of Lewis A. Rhoades, associate professor of, the German language and literature, be made $1,800. 8. That Joseph C. Blair, instructor in horticulture, be appointed assistant professor of horticulture aud that his salary be $1,200, to be paid equally by the University and the Agricultural Experiment Station. 9. That John. P. Hylan, instructor in psychology, be appointed assistant professor of psychology and that his salary be made $1,000.
